Touting an artist I don’t know

Over the years I have noticed a two-stage reaction to art that I like. First, there is the immediate visceral visual reaction: 1) wow, look at that thing, it “works”, it is coherent in its design, technique, metaphor or meaning, 2) that artist is confident and knows what they are doing, it challenges me to see in a new way, and NOW I want to get to the studio and make something! Usually, the very last urge, to desire to go make something, is the most dependable.

I don’t know Maura Cluthe, but I’m sure hot for her work right now. Her small, wacky, very personal work makes me want to mix it up, stir it up, and start drawing and painting again. And that’s saying something.
