GOP Offers Valentine’s Day Cruise With John Ashcroft

October 16, 2008 12:23 PM - Jason Linkins – from DC

If this election season runs the way most observers predict, the GOP will be facing historic electoral losses in November. How will they cope, if this comes to pass? Well, the Young America’s Foundation (http://www.yaf.org/) is stepping up with a plan to cure the post-election blues while carrying Republicans far, far away from the world of the lower class people of ACORN – on a Valentine’s Day cruise! Aboard the Regent Seven Seas Navigator. And Ed Meese will be there, so, yeah: BEST VALENTINE’S DAY EVER.

Also on board: Tom Tancredo, who promises to thoroughly Anglicize the Navigator’s “famed Fiesta Latina show.” And John Ashcroft will be there as well, so keep those bosoms covered up, ladies! And please be sure that on this Love Boat, the love doesn’t get too “exciting and new.”

“For Valentine’s Day, surprise your sweetheart,” reads the advertisement for the cruise, seemingly unaware that if I “surprised” my wife with the gift of Ashcroft and Meese in international waters, she would immediately surprise me with divorce proceedings, dipped in snake venom.

My comment: “Young America’s Foundation”? What kind of cockamamie tax dodge is this? I really hope these romantic cruisers are entertained by the song stylings of John Ashcroft… a little “barbershop” harmonizing, a little solo on “Let the Eagle Soar”. And then for dancing, a big screen projection of old Lawrence Welk Show hours. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

NOTE: Another little accomplishment of Mr. (‘I’m going to wipe out drugs and porn’) Ashcroft: (see: ashcroft, wikipedia) Counterculture icon Tommy Chong was one of those charged, for his part in financing and promoting Chong Glass/Nice Dreams, a company started by his son Paris. Of the 55 individuals charged as a result of the operations, only Chong was given a prison sentence (nine months in a federal jail, plus forfeiting $103,000 and a year of probation). The other 54 individuals were given fines and home detentions. While the DOJ denied that Chong was treated any differently from the other defendants, many felt that he was made an example of by the government. Chong’s experience as a target of Ashcroft’s sting operation is the subject of the feature length documentary a/k/a Tommy Chong, which premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival.

‘Chong Glass’ was bongs, a smoking device you can find in most any town over 5,000 in America today. What made this “a federal case” was they sold their items over the Internet. I guess Mr. Ashcroft was not amused by the comedy stylings of Cheech ‘n Chong.

Somehow, this just reminded me of Andy Warhol’s 2 favorite insults/put-downs: For men: “He’s corny!” For women: “She smells!” Welcome to the 10-day cruise, sweetheart!
